As we transition into fall and start spending more time indoors - the practice of self-care becomes more and more important. This article talks about the most therapeutic indoor plants, their benefits, and why they should be a staple in every home!
Sansevieria or Snake Plants
No green thumb needed here! Sansevieria, or snake plants, are commonly known for their low-maintenance nature and their pointy, sword-like leaves. These green amigos are notoriously hard to kill… like seriously… it would be impressive if you managed to do it. What you might not know about Sansevierias is that they are approved by NASA for their out of this world (ha ha.. get it?) air purifying qualities. In studies conducted by the organization, snake plants have proven to remove toxins such as formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, and nitrogen oxides from the air - ensuring cleaner, easier breathing. They also release oxygen while you sleep making these green amigos the perfect bedroom plant… wink wink ;) Snake plants will be happy with just about any light levels - just make sure their soil is completely dry before your next watering sesh.
English Ivy
English Ivy might be one of our favourite houseplants in the fall, as it is hardy, trailing, and can survive colder temps. What many don’t know about the hedera helix (it’s other name) is that these climbing plants have traditional medicinal origins! Wild hey? Not only do they improve air quality in a way similar to snake plants, but they are also used by herbalists to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, chronic pulmonary disease, and even intoxication! With anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory properties, English Ivy can help strengthen blood vessels and reduce allergies. Malorie the miracle plant! This being said, we don’t recommend ingesting the hedera hanging in your Fiona pot… talk to an herbalist as a first step.
