In many ways, a small apartment in the city is a lot more difficult to arrange than a large country house. There’s only so much you can fit in a room, and unfortunately, plants often require a lot of space. But having plants in smaller homes can bring many benefits. Plants have more air purifying effects in smaller rooms and it’s easier to take care of plants when they are always in sight. To help ensure that your plants take up as little space as possible in your home, we have compiled a list of tips you can use to decorate.
1. Use your walls
People often overlook how much space is available on their walls. While most people only use their walls to hang pictures or paintings, they can also be an ideal spot for plants. Hanging your plants or placing them in pots on your wall will not only save you a lot of space but can also look really beautiful in your home.
2. Get several smaller plants
We get it. Who wouldn’t want an extra-large palm tree in their home? But sometimes there's just not enough room. For smaller spaces, it's better to have many small plants like Wendy (Jade Plant) or Vern (Zebra Cactus), which you can place throughout your home. On top of a cupboard, at the end of your bookshelf, next to your spice jars, there are endless possibilities for where you can place small plants. Besides adding a nice touch to any room, having multiple smaller plants is also better for air purification, as they spread fresh air more widely throughout the room.
3. Use the windows
We all know plants need sunlight, so it’s not surprising that plants are often placed near a window. But what if you don't have a window frame to put the plant on? Very simple, you hang them up! There are lots of different designs you can use to hang your plants. Just imagine having a number of plants hanging from the top of your window. Talk about an eye-catcher!
4. Flip them on their head
It’s true that there’s unused space on windows and walls, but if you really want to get creative, look up! The ceiling is no longer a place only for lamps. There are many ways that you can hang your plants from the ceiling but if you really want to get creative, there are special pots you can get that hang a plant upside down. Since plants have the ability to grow upwards, hanging them upside down also gives them a unique shape. Now that's a conversation starter!
