Feeling creative? – DIY Lightbulb Vases

Feeling creative? – DIY Lightbulb Vases

Nowadays you see more and more self-made vases for plants and flowers. Mugs, teapots, bottles, you name it! Putting your plant in a homemade vase or pot is a fun and easy way to decorate your home without having to spend a fortune. To help you achieve your plant-influencer dreams, we have put together a DIY for making one of our favourite homemade vases: the light bulb vase! A unique vase that's not only beautiful, but also a great conversation starter (especially if it was made by you *wink-wink)!

What you need:

  • Sturdy glove
  • Old light bulb
  • Goggles
  • Pliers (preferably needle nose pliers)
  • Screwdriver
  • Iron wire (for standing vase)
  • Flower wire or string (for hanging vase)
  • Plants or plant cuttings

How to:

  1. Put the glove on your hand and hold the light bulb by the socket (do not hold by the glass, or it may break). Put your goggles on to protect you from any glass shards.
  2. Remove the thin, silver layer from the bottom of the light bulb with your pliers.
  3. Gently break or nudge the black (glass) cap with your pliers and remove it from the lamp.
  4. Loosen everything in the light bulb with your screwdriver and hollow it out with your pliers. Continue to pull out the wires and the light. And carefully remove any remaining glass that is still around the edges.
  5. To create a standing vase: wrap the iron wire around the light bulb's metal socket. Bend the remaining wire down to form a base.
  6. To create a hanging vase: drill two small holes on either side of the light bulb's base and attach floral wire or string.
  7. Fill your vase with water and place your favourite plants or plant cuttings inside it.
